Plain Jane

She was that girl that nobody could see.
She reminded me of you and reminded me of me.
She had only one friend that she could confer.
She was that girl in the halls and no one noticed her.

And all she ever wanted was for somebody to see her.

She could never step out from all the noise
And get some attention from the boys,
Because she didn’t look like what they wanted,
Because she wouldn’t flaunt what they flaunted.

And all she ever wanted was for somebody to love her.

Then she was all alone when her best friend died.
She had no one else for her to confide.
She loved her friends kids like they were her own,
But out of the spot light and remained unknown.

And all she ever wanted was for somebody to hear her.

I see her house; it’s expensive and new.
I can see the successes that she did accrue.
But despite her homemade achievement throne,
She gets out of work just to be all alone.

And all she ever wanted was for somebody to hold her.
